Maya Nair

Lecturer

I have recently started my teaching career in one of the UK’s best universities teaching undergraduate nursing students. It has given me an insight into the academic world and has encouraged me to thus apply for this post. I am also a clinical practitioner and get various opportunities to teach health care professionals clinically. I have regularly mentored new starters and student nurses in the clinical area.

I have also voluntarily taught the new starters in our unit on a regular basis, a busy critical care environment comprising approximately two hundred and fifty staff with a regular high turnover. I was responsible for training all the staff members on our unit regarding a change brought about in the Confusion Assessment Method in the Intensive Care Unit. Teaching sessions were carried out throughout a year during mandatory study days. I am the Dementia Champion representing my unit at the trust level. Dementia Awareness was launched in my trust recently. I have been responsible for making all staff aware and training them to provide the necessary care for patients with dementia and their families.
