Study with an Off-Campus Partner
PhD (Applied Mathematics) CNAA (1992): ‘On High Resolution Finite Difference Schemes for the Euler Equations’. This work saw the development of arbitrarily high-order accurate total variation diminishing schemes for the Euler equations of compressible, unsteady flows. The governing equations are a system of non-linear hyperbolic partial differential equations.
I joined the ¸Û°Äͼ¿â (formerly Bolton Institute) in December 1991.
Academic Interests
Since teaching at the ¸Û°Äͼ¿â, my academic interests have been in widening my knowledge of classical applied mathematics, enabling me to offer the university a wide variety of subject-specific skills at HE6 and dissertation areas. These include:
Viscous Fluid Dynamics
One of my current scholarly interests is in the use of transform methods and asymptotic analysis to solve unsteady incompressible flow problems.
Water Waves
I am particularly interested in the development of analytical solutions of the governing equations, particularly the use of complex analytical methods to determine surface waves in flows around obstacles.
Elasticity
My interest is in the use of complex variable methods in the solution of the biharmonic equation of plane strain theory.
