Niall is a Learning Disability Nurse, with 40 years of experience and has worked in a number of hospital and community roles in Scotland and England as a staff nurse, community charge nurse, research nurse, and worked as a reviewer and local coordinator examining the lives and deaths of people with a learning disability.
Niall became a Nursing Lecturer in 1996 and held several lecturing and senior management roles across Universities in Yorkshire covering all fields of nursing and the allied health professionals. This also included roles as the Head of Practice Education and Fitness to Practice lead for nursing and the allied health professionals.
Niall holds a BSc (Hons.) in Nursing and Education, a M.Sc. in Applied Behavioural Sciences and a Ph.D. that looked at the Social Construction of Knowledge in e-Portfolios.
Research Interests and Research Subject Specialisms:
Niall has academic interests in Learning Disability, Social Construction of Knowledge, research, and developing student’s knowledge through supervision.
Teaching specialisms;
Learning disability nursing, leadership and management, health inequalities, sociology.

Learning from the Lives and Deaths of People with a Learning Disability (LeDeR) local reviewer and contributor to local and national report.

Completed a PhD on how electronic portfolios support the social construction of knowledge by healthcare students.
