Anna Ziemer

Senior Lecturer and MSc Pre-registration Physiotherapy Programme Leader

Anna earned her Master鈥檚 degree in Physiotherapy in 2001 following 5-years Physiotherapy Course at Poznan鈥檚 University of Physical Education in Poland. She started her career as Physiotherapist working at University Hospital鈥檚 Rehabilitation Clinic in Bydgoszcz looking after most complex neurological cases including patients with Prolonged Disorder of Consciousness (PDOC), spinal cord injuries, strokes, and major trauma.

Whilst pursuing her clinical career Anna completed her PhD (2006) and taught Medical and Physiotherapy Students at Collegium Medicum UMK in Bydgoszcz. After moving to UK she has been working in tertiary services and continued to look after patients living with long term neurological conditions. She was a Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist at the Priory Highbank in Bury and Balance Champion when working at SP Therapy Services. Her passion for teaching was continued with leading Clinical Placements at her workplaces and sessional teaching at Manchester Metropolitan University.

Anna is a great enthusiast of Physiotherapy, its role in regaining person鈥檚 wellbeing and she strives to pass this passion to future generation of clinicians. She joined 港澳图库 Physiotherapy Teaching Team in April 2020 and since has been appointed as MSc Pre-Registration Programme Leader. She teaches Neuroanatomy, Physiology and Neurological Physiotherapy.

Anna鈥檚 clinical interest lies in complex neurological presentations, balance and falls prevention. She is trained Advance PNF, Bobath and PD Warrior therapist. She learned about Balance and Motor Control directly from Prof A. Shumway-Cook and M. Woollacott as well as Prof J. McLoughlin. She likes low tech innovations and good ideas bringing value to patients鈥 lives. She strongly believes that her extensive clinical experience as well as passion for research implementation are great foundations for the teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate Physiotherapy degree programmes.

Anna has developed falls prevention programme for people living with long term neurological conditions and presented her project as poster during ACPIN International Neurophysiotherapy Conference in 2018 followed by publication in their 鈥淪ynapse鈥 journal. She co-authored Brain Injury course for Physiopedia educational platform Physioplus.

Anna is a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) and registered with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC). She is also a committee member of North West branch of Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Neurology (ACPIN).

Anna is bilingual and lifelong sport enthusiast.
